Press release | Wuunder launches logistics innovation GreenChoice

From delivery peaks to combined deliveries

Logistics SaaS platform Wuunder is taking an important step towards making parcel delivery more sustainable with the launch of its GreenChoice shipping solution. The solution shows in the checkout of a webshop on which day a carrier will already be delivering a parcel in the recipient's neighbourhood, so that the carrier can bundle the delivery of parcels. This results in fewer traffic movements, which in turn leads to a reduction in CO2 emissions.

This launch is part of a broader sustainability trend, with Dutch consumers becoming more aware of the environmental impact of their online purchases. In fact, 68 per cent say they are willing to change their ordering behaviour to help the environment. Wuunder GreenChoice offers consumers exactly that opportunity.

From delivery peaks to combined deliveries

GreenChoice bridges the gap between sustainability and efficiency. Transporters and warehouses also benefit from this, as it smooths out the growing peak load in the logistics sector. Currently, most online orders are placed at the weekend and packed on Monday. As a result, the delivery peak is invariably on Tuesday. By removing the need to deliver as quickly as possible, the rush is spread more evenly throughout the week.

GreenChoice reduces the number of delivery attempts, which not only leads to more efficient logistics, but also to direct cost savings for retailers. In addition, the reduced CO2 emissions directly contribute to achieving CSRD targets. The benefits are not limited to the retailer: if the carrier passes on the savings to the retailer, consumers can benefit from lower shipping costs and receive their parcels on the desired day and location.

Wuunder worked with two pilot customers for GreenChoice: fashion company SOXS.co, supplier of sustainable socks and accessories, participated in A/B testing, and supplier of organic and vegan wines Neleman now uses GreenChoice in its daily operations. In addition, several retailers are currently implementing GreenChoice.

Jeroen Gehlen, founder of Wuunder: "We started Wuunder nine years ago with one goal: to make the logistics sector more sustainable. With GreenChoice, we are getting closer and closer to achieving this goal. We are making a definitive break with the old delivery model that focuses purely on speed, at the expense of the environment and efficiency. By bundling deliveries intelligently and planning them better, we are reducing CO2 emissions, relieving the burden on both delivery drivers and employees in warehouses and sorting centres, and reducing traffic congestion. Consumers also benefit because they can schedule parcel deliveries at times when they are sure to be at home. In short, GreenChoice offers advantages for all parties. It marks an important step towards the new standard of collective and sustainable delivery.
