Working together towards greener logistics
The transport sector is responsible for a significant portion of CO₂ emissions in the Netherlands. E-commerce growth means more and more parcels on the road, with all the environmental consequences that brings.
At Wuunder, we believe it can be different. It has to be different. That's why we work daily to make logistics greener, smarter and more efficient. Not just in theory, but with concrete solutions that deliver real impact. Wuunder is proud to be a Certified B Corp™ since June 2026.
Smart consolidation, more impact
Wuunder was founded on the conviction that we can contribute to a greener, more sustainable society. By intelligently connecting the digital and physical logistics world, we can significantly reduce CO₂ emissions in the last mile. We do this by coordinating the entire logistics process and aligning it with the daily rhythm of people and businesses.
When consumers are given a real choice at checkout, they choose the planet. 88% of online shoppers select the Wuunder GreenChoice option, where deliveries are bundled on days a driver is already in the area. The effect ripples through the entire chain: 20% fewer delivery vans on the road and 7.5% lower CO₂ emissions, without sacrificing speed or reliability.
But what surprises most retailers: sustainability sells. Webshops that activate GreenChoice see up to 30% higher conversion at checkout, because consumers reward brands that align with their values.
Operational gains as a bonus
The environmental benefits are just the beginning. By combining smart route consolidation your warehouse peak on Monday will be reduced, our customers achieve serious operational savings:
- Up to 30% lower fulfilment costs through less warehouse peaks you need less temporary employees
- A 40% faster warehouse process thanks to automated carrier selection and label generation
- 70% fewer support tickets through proactive track & trace communication that informs end customers before they need to ask
Partnership with the University of Groningen
We don't just develop our sustainable solutions on gut feeling, we do so on scientific research. Together with the University of Groningen, we're studying the impact of sustainable delivery on consumer behaviour, CO₂ reduction and checkout conversion.
This partnership combines insights from sustainable logistics and behavioural psychology to understand how we can best encourage consumers to make sustainable choices. The scientific foundation lets us measure actual impact and keep improving.
Wuunder provided historical data for this study. Based on this, a research paper was written by Marith Zeelenberg, PhD candidate under the supervision of dr. ir. Paul Buijs and dr. Onur Kilic.
The results from this research were published in 2026 and help us develop even more effective sustainable solutions. Two more studies are not yet published.
Based on the scientific research by the University of Groningen, we created a more accessible summary through a real customer case: Neleman.

Smart consolidation reduces transport movements
The problem in current logistics is clear: every carrier drives through almost every postcode to deliver individual parcels. This means more vans on the road than necessary, low load rates and unnecessary kilometres. With Wuunder GreenChoice, we tackle this head-on.
By intelligently consolidating deliveries per postcode and delivery day, carriers can deliver more parcels in one trip. This reduces transport movements, lowers CO₂ emissions and causes fewer traffic jams and disruption in cities. Customers consciously choose a green delivery day when the driver is already in the area. We see that as many as 80% of customers actively choose this sustainable option when it's offered.
This approach isn't just good for the environment, but also for delivery reliability. By letting customers choose when they're home, we reduce failed delivery attempts and unnecessary extra trips. And that makes us happy!
Less air, more content
Another major problem in logistics is wasted space. Oversized boxes with lots of filling material mean fewer parcels fit in a delivery van, leading to more trips. With Wuunder PuzzlPack, we help companies pack products as efficiently as possible.
By calculating the optimal packaging method based on dimensions and weight, we minimise empty space where possible. This not only saves packaging material, but also allows more parcels to fit per trip, directly resulting in lower CO₂ emissions per parcel sent. Pretty sustainable, right?
The role of web shops
Our own research shows that 41% of consumers feel there's too much focus on speed when it comes to delivery. A sustainable mindset exists among consumers, but visible choices are often missing. Webshops need to make sustainable options more visible, attractive and accessible.
By offering green delivery options as standard in the checkout, at no extra cost and with a clear explanation of the impact, we can make a difference together. Consumer willingness is there, now we need to make the choices available.
As proud as we are of our green innovations, we've only just began. E-commerce growth continues, and with it grows the pressure on our transport system. But by working together, with carriers, retailers, customers and researchers, we can make the last mile greener. Step by step.
Sustainable logistics requires system change. Not just better technology, but also different consumer choices, collaboration between companies and smart agreements with carriers.
